Violence & Threats
Threats of harm have no place on SHY. This policy covers violence, threats, and credible intent to hurt anyone — on the app or off it.
What violates this policy
- Threatening physical harm to a person, their family, or their property
- Glorifying, celebrating, or calling for violence against a person or group
- Coercion backed by a threat — "do this or else"
- Content that promotes violent extremism or organized violence
What does not
- Describing your own past experiences, including as a survivor of violence
- Discussing news events without celebrating harm
- Clearly hyperbolic figures of speech with no target and no intent
Enforcement
Threats start at suspension, and credible threats of harm are a permanent ban — reported to law enforcement where the law requires or allows. See how enforcement works. Report violations in-app or via Safety; appeals are always available.
If you or someone else is at risk
If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. If you are struggling or in crisis, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and other free resources are listed on Safety at SHY.
